SOHO Weariness
Many of you have commented on the concept of "weariness" I spoke
about recently in "The Realities of SOHO Living," wanting more
clarity. Well, everyone gets tired and no matter how much you love
what you do, there tend to be times when you'd rather be...(fishing,
lying on a beach, taking a break, taking a job...there are hundreds
of possibilities). The weariness comes from frustration when things
don't go as planned
or as quickly as planned. It comes when the problems you thought you
solved years ago pop up again. It comes when we look across a fence
and the grass looks greener. Weariness comes at the life
moments when we question our meaning.
I have likened dealing with this weariness to the challenge of the
entertainer who knows s/he must perform the fans' "favorites" at each
and every concert. No matter you have to sing it nightly -- and keep
it fresh -- for years on end. But then, again, it's not about you. It
is about them.
I feel more powerful and less weary whenever I am engaged in actively
serving others. Focusing on and helping them is key. Not thinking too
much about my various "realities" and "situations" also helps because
when I do, I usually put a "value" on the thought. Again, it is like
the entertainer who can either ask, "How can I make this my best
performance?" or "Why do I have to sing this song AGAIN?" The first purges
weariness, the second invites it to linger.
